Soldiers secure Black Nazarene devotees in CdeO

CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City, Jan 10 (PIA) – The 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division augmented the security personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP) who secured the devotees of the Black Nazarene in this city during the procession of the statue on Wednesday.

The procession, which started at barangay Lapasan and ended at Jesus Nazareno Parish Church, is in line with the celebration of the feast of the Black Nazarene which is one of the most awaited feasts celebrated by Catholics.

The Division sent a platoon of soldiers to help PNP secure the 4,000 devotees who joined the procession. This crowd is a bit lesser compared to last year’s number of 10,000 devotees.

"Your soldiers offered to augment the security personnel to ensure the safety of the public. This will not only lessen the probability of accidents but will also preempt criminals who planned to take advantage of the situation," Lieutenant Colonel Eugenio Julio C Osias IV, 4ID Spokesperson said.

“The public’s safety is our foremost concern, we are always ready to help the PNP in securing the people in any kind of activity,” Osias added. (4CMO/4ID/PIA10)

Camiguin operates own sanitary landfill
By Jorie C. Valcorza

MAMBAJAO, CAMIGUIN, January 9, 2012 (PIA) – A multi-million waste disposal facility was launched here on Monday in time for its 45th founding anniversary.

Dubbed as the Camiguin Solid Waste Sanitary Landfill Management and Research Development Project (CS2MRDP), the facility was established to ensure a sustainable garbage management system in the island, as well as, facilitate research development studies on waste utilization technologies.

It is a 5-hectare sanitary landfill which houses waste processing facility, laboratory, materials recovery facility, municipal/residual waste disposal cell, and hospital/hazardous waste cell which in total amounted to about P25.30M.

CS2MRDP is partly funded by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Performance Challenge Fund (PCF), in which the province was given P7M for winning the Seal of Good Housekeeping Award (SGH) in year 2011, together with the P5M support fund, and the P3M Gawad Pamana ng Lahi 2012 Regional Cash Award.

The Province is still to receive the cash award for the SGH 2012.

In his message during the opening ceremony, Camiguin Governor Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo assured his constituents that no garbage from the facility will reach along its beaches.

“The landfill we developed in barangay Benhaan of Mambajao town is the only part of the province found to prevent possible water spill,” the governor added.

The facility will serve the entire island-province and will be soon expanding with an additional 10-hectare service area.

This collective effort, according to the governor, is real manifestation of their move towards equitable and sustainable development in good governance. (JCV/PIA 10)
