The forum was anchored on the theme, “Insights and Aspirations on Civilian Military Partnership in Peace Development and Nation Building.”

Organizers of the said event welcomed 267 strong military cadets from the PMA Class 2014 who came to the city to promote the academy and to support the peace initiatives of the government.

“The purpose of this whole thing, aside from promoting the academy, is to provide a fruitful learning experience for the cadets. They are being oriented with the different units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), such as the Air Force, the Navy, and the Army,” said Lt. Col. Jose Demar A. Pauly of the PMA Civil Military Operation (CMO) staff.

They are also being oriented with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and of getting to know the people, like now, the students,” Pauly added.

Pauly, likewise, explained that the cadets undergo character, academic, military and physical development in order to become “very efficient managers of conflict-resolution.”

The second part of the program, which was commenced by PPOC Executive Director Teodoro A. Sabugaa Jr., was the interactive forum wherein the participants were grouped into teams and were asked to share about their perceptions on peace.

Results of the forum are to be consolidated and will be used to improve the peace framework of Misamis Oriental.

“This is also a peace initiative since our cadets are the ambassadors of goodwill. People can ask questions so that they will realize that the cadets are normal people as they are,” said Pauly.

Among the participants of the forum were: Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) from across the province of Misamis Oriental, Central Student Government officers and students of Capitol University, and youths of Brgy. Carmen, this city.
