MOSCAT to align curriculum with needs of industry clientele
By Genesis V. Monterde
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental, May 12 (PIA) – In order to align the curriculum and fit it to the needs of the industry and its clientele, the Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology (MOSCAT) held its first stakeholders’ forum, last May 10, Tuesday, here at the Center for Lifelong Education (CLE).
Dr. Rosalito Quirino, President of MOSCAT, said it has long been planned and ambitioned to have a stakeholder’s forum involving all industries, clients in the field, and employers and recipients for their On the-Job-Training (OJT) courses.
"This is organized for the school to be informed of the demands of the industries in terms of employment," he said.
Quirino noted that, "The institution has already produced a number of graduates, but has not by any chance, pooled the employers or its alumni to discuss and revisit the curricular courses which might be essential for the improvement of its future graduates, not until now," he said.
“It seems like that the academe is working in isolation from the industry thereby producing mismatch graduates for the industry’s needs” Quirino said.
He emphasized that as a learning institution they must work hand in hand with its partner industries to establish good rapport.
He cited his observation during his visit to Europe, how the educational system was able to establish a close working relationship between the academe and the industries, among its partners, thereby ensuring the employability of its graduates.
Meanwhile, he said the forum was planned to be held even before the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) issued a memorandum order for the revision of the curriculum for Arts and Sciences Programs, as well, as with the General Education which encouraged the participation of stakeholders from parents, students, faculty members, employers, local officials, and the academic council. How you talk and interact with the people in the duration of your exposure will influence their perception of the PMA,” he said.
I hope that the guiding principles and values that you will learn inside the PMA will build you into becoming better leaders in the future,” he added.
Relatedly, 4ID Spokesperson and concurrently the Commanding Officer, 4th Civil Military Operations Battalion, Maj. Eugenio Julio C Osias IV sees the activity as a good way in promoting the Academy to the people.

However, the 4ID Commander also expressed his dismay for the controversies involving military officers, and warned the cadets not to ruin the reputation of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Meanwhile, he assured the bright future and lifelong career that awaits the cadets.

MOSCAT revises curriculum for Arts and Sciences, General Education
By Hannah Mae S. Salugsugan
CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental, May 11 (PIA) – To solicit suggestions on the revision of the Arts and Sciences Programs and General Education Curriculum of the Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology (MOSCAT), a stakeholders’ forum was held, here, yesterday, May 10.
Risalito A. Quirino, Ph.D., College President, said the curriculum revision of MOSCAT, a public institution of tertiary education located in the upland farming community of Claveria, is mandated by Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
Quirino underscored the need to address the problem on the mismatch of the academe and the industries where their graduates are supposed to work after college.
He believes that there should be a reinforcement of classroom instruction and establishing a close relationship between the academe and the industries.
“Bringing the learning process outside the classroom into the industry can assure employment even before graduation which will be very beneficial to the students,” he said.
Thus, he emphasized the need to involve the learners in the learning process and for teachers not monopolize the learning procedure.
He said “MOSCAT will be moving forward very fast. It will not be a typical academic institution but a ground for holistic development of man wherein learning will be enjoyable and meaningful.”
With optimism as part of the college’s philosophy, the College President aims to change MOSCAT into Misamis Oriental State University or the Philippine University of Environment and Technology in the years to come.
He said for the upcoming academic year, MOSCAT is aiming to claim supremacy in the field of research and to undertake resource production and management initiatives for institutional financial sustainability.
“Subjects on the field of management and a core course on human resource management will also be injected in the curriculum to equip the students with managerial skills needed in the industry of their capabilities,” Quirino said.
Among the forum participants were representatives from the following government/non-government agencies:
Dept. of Agriculture (DA), , Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and Claveria Local Government and Rural Health Unit (RHU).
