CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, November 12 (PIA) – The City Council Committee on Environment and Natural Resources urges all drivers and operators of Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) here to put garbage containers inside their vehicles.
City Councilor Zaldy Ocon, committee chair on environment and natural resources, said this will enable passengers to throw their solid wastes properly and refrain from throwing garbage anywhere else on the streets.
The provision of garbage tins inside PUJs is mandated under section 87 of Ordinance No. 10551-2007, otherwise known as the Traffic Code of Cagayan de Oro City, which was enacted in 2007.
Non compliance is punishable by law, Councilor Ocon stressed.
Further, the councilor appealed to commuters to report to the Roads and Administration (RTA) violations to the traffic code. He said they can do this by texting cellphone number 09069641092, which the RTA provided as one of its 24/7 services.
Ocon said this will help commuters report violations of drivers while they are on board.
“Aduna usab kitay balaud nga nagmando sa tanang operators sa sakyanang publiko sa pagsulat o pag printa usab sa sulod sa ilang sakyanan ang plate number ug ngalan sa operator ug kinahanglan sa dako ug klaro nga mga letra ug numero,” (We also have a law that states that all operators of PUJs should write or print inside their jeepneys the plate number and name of the operator and in bold letters and numbers, Ocon added, citing section 114 of the Traffic Code). ARMM
to extend aid to typhoon victims in Visayas
MARAWI
CITY, Lanao del Sur, Nov. 12 (PIA) --- The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao
(ARMM) is sending a humanitarian team to help victims of super storm
Yolanda in Visayas, an official of the region said on Monday.
“We
are sending a team there and we’re sending it within the week,” said ARMM
Executive Secretary Atty. Laisa Alamia.
She said
the ARMM government will bring food and non-food relief items to affected areas
in Visayas.
According
to her, this is a pooled effort of all the line agencies of ARMM.
Meanwhile,
Alamia said the regional government is also prepared for any calamities
that may hit the region.
“We
are always prepared, this is why we’ve set up the ARMM HEART,” she said.
HEART
stands for Humanitarian Emergency Action and Response Team, a key program of
the regional government that focuses on disaster response.
ARMM
was able to register zero-casualty when typhoon Pablo hit the region last year.
For
his part, ARMM Governor Mujiv S. Hataman has sent his message of
solidarity to the victims of the typhoon.
“We
are in solidarity with them and we in ARMM are praying and hoping that everyone
will carry with them the torch of resiliency as we face the challenges that may
come our way in the coming days,” Hataman said. (Bureau of Public
