PCG-Ozamiz allows 50% passenger
capacity in ferry’s sunrise to sunset operation
By Rutchie Cabahug-Aguhob
OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental, Nov.
12 (PIA) –The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Ozamiz City Station (PCG-Ozamiz)
has allowed a ferry services company to carry 50 percent of its passenger
capacity, per route, in its sunrise to sunset operation.
This condition will remain, while
Storm Warning Signal (SWS) No. 1, relative to Tropical Depression Zoraida, is
hoisted in Misamis Occidental by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and
Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Particularly, Chief Petty Officer
Anecito Tero, Station Commander of PCG-Ozamiz City, said the Daima Shipping
Lines that offers a roll-on, roll-off cargo and passenger ferry services plying
the Ozamiz-Mukas, Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte and vice-versa routes had been
allowed this arrangement.
The barges were given clearance to
sail the 15-min. one-way Ozamiz-MUkas and vice-versa routes, because it’s
daytime and in order not to disrupt the ferry services plying the said routes.
Tero said this portion of Panguil
Bay, through which the barges pass is located in a cove and the waves are not
so big.
“Besides, the barges can be seen from
where we are stationed and it’s only a matter of seconds for us to send help,
in case something goes wrong,” Tero added.
Meanwhile, Tero said the commercial
and cargo ships docked at the Ozamiz Port had been advised to drop their
anchor, while Storm Warning Signal No. 1 remains hoisted in the province.
The ships will be allowed to sail
only when SWS No. 1 will be lifted in the province by PAGASA, Tero added.

By Jasper Marie Oblina-Rucat
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Nov. 13 (PIA) – The Department of
Science and Technology - Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) recently
conducted here the last leg of the Mathematics Courseware and Tablet PC
project, “i-Teach Math” (Improving Technology-Enhanced Activities for Creative
Honing of Mathematics Skills) to Grade One mathematics teachers.
According to Teresita Baluyos of DOST region 10, this
i-Teach Math is implemented in seven different clusters nationwide. The aim was
to build and strengthen the capacity of teachers and their respective schools
in using and learning the contents of the interactive Grade One mathematics
courseware and to train them in applying and teaching the contents.
She explained that the training, however, did not only
focus on the use of the technology package; it also demonstrated how pupils’
conceptual understanding of selected concepts in Grade One mathematics and
mathematical reasoning can be enhanced.
She added that about 80 Grade One mathematics teachers
from Regions 10, 11, 12 and ARMM participated in the training.
This program of DOST is in line with its slogan,
“Science, Technology and Innovation: the Road to Smarter Philippines.”
“In time, students would love to learn mathematics,
and math teachers would not be branded anymore as ‘terrors’ but
student-friendly partners in making learning mathematics more fun and
enjoyable,” concluded Baluyos. (JMOR/PIA/DOST)
