BIR intensifies tax campaign in Mis. Occ.
By: Pat Nano

OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental – The Revenue District Office 100 (RDO-100) of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), here, has intensified its campaign to pay the annual income taxes for 2011.

Such campaign aims to remind the tax payers in the province to pay their obligation for the year 2011, during the first quarter of the year, which also coincide with the renewal of business registrations, Atty. Maria M. Alfonso, Revenue District Officer said.

Alfonso hopes RDO-100 will be able to achieve this year’s tax goal with the full cooperation and support of the tax payers.

The campaign started with a motorcade around the main thoroughfare of the city, recently, after which, a ceremonial signing of the pledge of support by the tax payers took place.

Meanwhile, Alfonso has reminded the tax payers to ask for official receipts (OR) everytime they buy goods or services from the store or establishment where they bought them.

Not asking for the OR’s from these establishments is to their favor but a loss to the government as the OR’s provide information if they really pay the correct taxes or not, Alfonso said.

Often times, consumers do not ask for the OR’s of these transactions because they are in a hurry or they really don’t know the importance of the OR’s. But is not yet too late to make the habit of asking for OR’s.

In fact, it should be made a habit by every tax payer to help he government in its tax collection efforts as taxes are the source of funds for development projects for the general welfare of the people, Alfonso added. (PIO/PIA-Mis. Occ.)

Cebuano News: Kampanya alang sa pagbayad sa buhis gilusad sa BIR sa Mis. Occ.
By: Pat Nano

(PIO/PIA-Mis. Occ.)

By Apipa P. Bagumbaran

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur- The drive to curb illegal logging here is gaining ground as the elements of the 65th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army confiscated anew assorted sizes of lumbers and saw machine on Saturday afternoon.

The confiscation of some 400 board feet of good lumbers, one unit of saw machine with TD-140 diesel engine and complete accessories, and one metal axle blade was the result of the raid conducted by the 65IB’s Scout Platoon led by 2Lt. Dennis Parale on March 3 in Barangay Cabasaran, said Lt. Col. Seigred Espina, 65IB commanding officer.

According to him, the logging machine was used for cutting illegal lumbers into different fletches from a sawmill in the said barangay.

He further said the confiscated items were brought to the 65IB Supply Office for safekeeping and proper disposition.

Espina also warned illegal loggers that the 65IB is actively conducting operations to fight illegal logging in its area of operation.

The battalion is likewise relentlessly coordinating with local government units, non-government organizations, and other stakeholders for the continuous conduct of tree planting activities to bring back the virginity of the forest, he said.

On a related development, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao is gearing up its preparations for the Regional Environmental Summit to be held this month here.

DOLE promotes voluntary compliance with labor laws
By Apipa P. Bagumbaran

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY- In addition to the regular inspection and technical advisory visits, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is also promoting voluntary compliance as a complementary approach in protecting the labor sector.

DOLE-10 Regional Director Johnson G. Cañete said that establishments that voluntarily comply with the general labor standards, occupational safety and health standards, and other existing labor mechanisms will be given a seal of excellence through the incentivizing compliance program (ICP).

The ICP gives due recognition and incentives to a company’s initiative to voluntarily comply with labor laws or by assisting a non-compliant company through training and technical assistance to enable it to comply with the requirements set by law.

“We have lasted 78 years of policing establishments and looking into their violations but we found out that in spite of all those efforts we are not totally successful, hence, volunteering on their part to comply with the standards set by the government is a developmental approach in ensuring compliance with labor laws,” he further said.
