CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental, May 6 (PIA) -- The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will schedule the distribution of the “Pantawid Pasada” fuel cards in Region 10 on the third week of May, this year.

The DILG has already started to distribute the cards last Monday, May 2, in Metro Manila and will continue to distribute the same throughout the succeeding months until all beneficiaries of the program have already been reached.

Guidelines for the “Pantawid Pasada” program which are contained in a memorandum issued by DILG Secretary Jessie Robredo were released last week.

Under the guidelines, the local chief executives (LCE) will present the list of preparation and certification of tricycle franchisees, addresses and number of operating tricycles to the DILG regional office and be a reference document of the DILG for the computation of the subsidy.

The LCE’s, with the DILG officials, are asked to conduct a local government-wide information drive to make the distribution of financial subsidy to be organized, and ensure that only those in the certified list will credit the subsidy.

Robredo advised DILG regional directors to disseminate the information to the local government units so that they can provide the necessary administrative advice and support to ensure a successful implementation of the Public Transport Assistance Program (PTAP).

The Pantawid Pasada is a program that aims to subsidize a portion of fuel consumption to jeepney and tricycle drivers and help them from the impact of constantly increasing fuel prices in the country.

“We hope that through this PTAP, we will somehow help tricycle owners in bearing the brunt of the oil price increases,” said Robredo. (PIA-10)

Maigo, Lanao Norte now a PhilHealth collecting agent
By: Jean Mary G. Ronquillo

MAIGO, Lanao del Norte, May 6 (PIA) – The local government unit of Maigo (LGU), Lanao del Norte, is now accredited as a collecting agent of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (Philhealth).

This was made after a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was entered into and signed between the LGU and Philhealth, last May 4, at the Maigo municipal session hall.

Represented by Maigo Mayor Rafael Rizalda and Christine Mae Garcia-Magno, Chief, Provincial PhilHealth Service Office, Iligan City/Lanao del Norte, the agreement will give the LGU authority to collect the PhilHealth premium payments of its members.

Magno said Maigo was chosen because aside from the fact that it has no accredited bank for PhilHealth, the municipality has a strategic location which could cater to PhilHealth members not just in the municipality but also from members coming from various barangays and municipalities of the province.

“We are happy that the mayor accepted the challenge of being a PhilHealth collecting agent, with additional work load and responsibility, but it is rather more of a measure and a manifestation that indeed the Mayor has the willingness to give the best interest of the people,” Magno said.

She added that by authorizing the LGU as collecting agent, they can reach out to their members on a daily basis, which they were unable to do in the past.

For his part, Rizalda said this project will greatly help the people in finding accessibly to the Philhealth payment and will add revenue income to the municipality of about 1.5% quarterly share of the total collection.

“It can, likewise, be a form of publicity to the municipality,” added Rizalda.
However, Magno said, the municipality of Maigo is accredited not just for being the first municipality in the province to become a collecting partner of Philhealth, but also for the record of being the first universally covered municipality with private Philhealth sponsorship in 2004 and the first municipality to attain PhilHealth.
