Families settle rido in Lanao del Sur
Marawi City - A rido (feud) between four warring families in Lanao del Sur that caused the lives of more than 10 people was finally settled.
The families of Hadji Azis Apollo Aloyodan, former mayor of Lumbaca Unayan, Hadji Ibrahim Ampuan, former vice-mayor of Lumbatan, Bukari Ra-ado, and Datu Aragasi Bacontol, Barangay Chairman of Calalon in Lumbaca Unayan as well as their relatives came to a settlement to put an end to their conflicts.
As they signed the covenant of peace, they promised to co-exist peacefully and set aside fighting.
They also agreed to drop all the cases filed in court that are related to the rido.
The settlement that was held Wednesday, January 12, at the Provincial Capitol Gymnasium in Barangay Buadi Sacayo this city was resolved using the traditional system of “taritib” and “igma” or customary laws.
The rido settlement was reached through the efforts of the provincial government facilitated by the Provincial Ulama Council, Council of Elders, Lumbaca Unayan Mayor Itomama Guro, Lumbatan Mayor Mamintal Rasuman, and Marogong Vice-Mayor Sultan Abdulgafor Dumaorong.
Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr. said the settlement of ridos in the province is one of the priority programs of his administration.
Being one of the causes of peace and order problems, rido has remained a stumbling block in the development of the province.

Cagayan de Oro City – Paying taxes has become the utmost concern of the present Board of Directors of the Cagayan de Oro Press Club (COPC) and its President, Santiago O. Goking, Jr., a certified public accountant (CPA) and a lawyer.
“I was not too aware of the financial burden that lies ahead when I assumed as President of COPC. Not when I scrutinized the huge real estate tax delinquency that has ballooned to over Php430,000,” said Goking, who was sworn in February of 2010.
Occupying a space at the second floor, COPC, which was founded in 1951, owns a 2-storey building at A. Velez St., this city, near the Press Freedom Monument (PFM), where it rents out the ground floor to other tenants.
“Already, we have paid a total of Php200,000 to the CDO City Treasurer’s Office, all from our income from rentals. Lately, during the 59th Foundation Day, we also raised Php19,500 from donations and this was part of the Php50,000 latest payment that we made,” he said during a gathering, last Christmas.
Although collections from tenants remain a problem, COPC has already managed to trim down the accounts receivable and that eviction notices, for those who continue to ignore collection notices, may be issued through its legal counsel, Goking said.
Meanwhile, he said the present board had managed to restore COPC’s good standing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from which it was delisted for several years and is now back on the SEC’s list after the mandated dues and penalties were paid with representations from the following board members:

Malaybalay funds fertilizer to help farmers hobbling along price hikes
Malaybalay City, Bukidnon – The city government announced that Mayor Ignacio Zubiri has ordered inclusion of microbial fertilizer in the financial subsidy to back up the rice seeds assistance project currently distributed to Malaybalay rice farmers.
The fertilizer is originally tagged at P240 per bag, but went down to P120 after the city government paid its 50% cost.
In an interview, city agriculture officer Andrew Bergado explained that treating the seeds with microbial fertilizer before sowing would promote growth, flowering, and fruiting. “Thus, this will ensure farmers’ abundant yield during harvest season,” he added.
As reported earlier, the Department of Agriculture (DA) subsidizes P600 per bag of certified seeds under the Rapid Seeds Supply Financing Project (RASSFIP). Said rice seeds has a market price of P1,200.
“Luckily, Malaybalay farmers can now obtain it at only P300 per bag because 50% of P600 was paid by the city government,” Bergado stressed.
“So, the farmers now can have a bag of certified rice seeds at P300 and a pack of microbial fertilizer at P120, with a total of P420 only. This is a ‘packaged subsidy’ granted by the city government to enlisted farmer beneficiaries in Malaybalay,” Bergado ended. (Ruby Leonora R. Balistoy/PIA Bukidnon)
