Ozamiz, DOTC enter P125M-MOA for modernization of Ozamiz Airport

CITY, Misamis Occidental, Jan. 3 (PIA) – A P125,000,000-memorandum of agreement
(MOA) for the modernization and improvement of the Ozamiz Airport will be
entered into by the City Government with the Department of Transportation and
Communication (DOTC).
The
Ozamiz City Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP) passed Resolution No. 270-13, allowing
Mayor Reynaldo O. Parojinog, Sr., to sign the MOA with DOTC, represented by
Assistant Secretary for Project Implementation, Ildefonso T. Patdu, Jr. for
modernization and improvement of the existing Ozamiz Airport, included among
the priority projects of the National Government, with DOTC providing the
funds for the project.
Among
others, the MOA tasks the City Government to draw and provide for the
operating standards and guidelines for the acquisition of lots affected by the
project according to existing governing laws, rules and regulations.
Another
task of the LGU is to clear the airport site from dwellers and closely
coordinate with the National Housing Authority (NHA) in the establishment and
development of the provision of adequate facilities and services and facilitate
the liquidation of funds transferred to it in accordance with existing rules
and regulations of the Commission on Audit (COA).
Meanwhile,
the DOTC, subject to existing laws, rules and regulations, shall facilitate the
transfer to the City Government, the amount of P125,000,000 for the operational
expenses of the City relative to clearing and acquiring the lots of the airport
project site, conversion of lot from agricultural to commercial, securing
environmental clearance, and relocation and resettlement undertaking.
The
transfer of funds shall be made in two tranches: first trance, P62,500,000 upon
signing of MOA and second trance, P62,500,000, upon full liquidation of
the previous release.
Likewise,
DOTC shall have the right to exercise auditorial power over the expenditures
for lot acquisition and resettlement and coordinate and monitor the activities

Marawi youth leaders undergo orientation on constituency building for peace, governance

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, January 2 (PIA)
--- Around 40 selected high school students here have undergone a three-day
orientation and workshop on youth leadership and constituency-building for
peace and governance.
Organized by the Al-Mujadilah Development
Foundation, Inc. (AMDF) with the support of the Enhancing Governance,
Accountability and Engagement (ENGAGE) Project of the United States Agency for
International Development (USAID), the orientation-workshop held last week in
Marawi Resort Hotel was intended to generate youth’s perception and
understanding of peace and good governance.
AMDF Executive Director Zahria M. Mapandi said the
orientation-workshop was aimed at helping high school students realize their
crucial role as stakeholders and actors of peace and good governance.
It also sought to validate social issues being
experienced by youth which are barriers to their active participation in the
community, she said.
Mapandi said the three-day activity focused mainly
on leadership and constituency-building for peace and good governance.
Leadership because the participants were potential
youth leaders and constituency building because we wanted them to reach out to
their classmates and fellow youth and share to them the action plans they
formulated for the betterment of Marawi City and Lanao del Sur, she said.
A network of youth leaders was meanwhile created to
serve as catalyst to sustain local initiatives on peace and good governance in
the city.
Founded in 1994, AMDF is a non-profit,
non-government organization (NGO) with 70 active women doing research services,
community works, and promoting advocacies on gender justice, community

Oroquieta City CES is Gulayan Project Best Implementing School in Region

OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental, Jan. 2 (PIA) –
The Oroquieta City Central Elementary School bagged 2013 Regional Winner of the
Search for Best Implementing Schools in the Gulayan sa Paaralan at Tahanan
Project, elementary school level.
Open to all public and private elementary/secondary
schols of the Department of Education (DepED) in region 10, the search aimed to
improve the nutritional status of undernourished children and promote and
enhance vegetable production in public and private elementary/ secondary
schools.
It also aimed to increase the capability of schools
and communities to produce sufficient food commodities to sustain the
year-round supplementary feeding program and promote economic productivity,
improved health and nutrition and wholesome environment.

Superintendent of DepEd- Oroquieta City said the search also aimed to increase
knowledge, skills and appreciation among pupils on the importance of school
gardening and showcase small-scale food production models to replicate
purposely to promote family food security.
Likewise, the search aimed to educate parents on
how to improve the nutritional status of their children and provide harmonious
relationship between the school and community and transfer the pupils’ learning
from school to home.
Through the Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan
(EPP), Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE), and Technical/Vocational
Education, DepEd is encouraging to esbablish and sustain school gardens to ensure
the continuous supply of vegetables in suppot to the supplementary feeding and
also one of the training grounds of the pupils/students to learn
entrepreneurial skills.
Meanwhile, other Regional Winners of the Gulayan sa
Paaralan at Tahanan Project from the province of Misamis Occidental are as

3rd place, Gango Elementary School, Ozamiz City, 5.5th place and Sicot

set for repair of schools in Yolanda areas

OROQUIETA CITY,
Misamis Occidental, Jan. 2 (PIA) – The P2 million cash donation from the
Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental went mostly to repair of schools
and multi-purpose buildings in Leyte, Samar and Bohol provinces.
This was revealed by Gain Paul De Barras, Provincial Disaster Risk
Reduction and Management (PDRRM) Officer, who said the donation was delivered
to the areas a month after Tyhpoon Yolanda occurred in the East Visayan Region,
last November.
De Barras said a PDRRM Council Humanitarian Team from Misamis Occidental
was dispatched for two-weeks to assist in the relief operations to the Typhoon
Yolanda affected areas to deliver the following:
Tacloban City, P500,000 for repair of Marasbaras Elementary School and
for the Yolanda survivors in Barangay 82 with 1,000 food packs, 200 hygiene
kits and 26 sacks containing 25 kg. of rice and Ormoc City - P500,000 for
the repair of school building in Ormoc City.
Province of Samar, P500,000 for repair of schools and multi-purpose buildings in the municipalities of San Sebastian, Basey and Marabut; and Province of Bohol, P500,000 for the repair of schools in the municipality of Loon.

Meanwhile, PG Misamis Occidental cancelled the Employees’ Fun Day/Night

DepEd Marawi honors outstanding teachers, school
administrators, retirees

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur, January 2 (PIA) --- Outstanding teachers,
school officials and administrators, employees, and retirees of the Department
of Education (DepEd) City School Division were feted with a celebration on
Sunday.
The event dubbed ‘Araw ng Parangal” held on December 29, 2013 at the
Marawi City School Division Quadrangle was graced by Autonomous Region in
Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Education Secretary Atty. Jamar M. Kulayan.
City School Division Superintendent Mona A. Macatanong said the main
purpose of the occasion was to honor the remarkable deeds of teachers who serve
as front liners in molding the youth to become better persons.
The celebration also gave due commendation to deserving school
administrators, employees and 20 retirees of City School Division who have
shown exemplary performance and leadership in exercising their duties and
functions, she said.
Among those cited were Tocod C. Macapanton as outstanding education
program supervisor; Sittie Nor T. Dipatuan as outstanding division area
coordinator, Dr. Sadrodin M. Diron, Anisah S. Guro, Carema T. Abedin as
outstanding district supervisors; Zorayda Dapit-Abato as outstanding secondary
school principal; Auxilia Sabaduquia as outstanding kindergarten teacher;
Sandra T. Tomawis as outstanding district alternative learning system
coordinator; Sanauray Macud as outstanding mobile teacher; Aleem Aliasgar
Mangorsi as outstanding teacher for Arabic Language and Islamic Values
Education; Rohana M. Usman as outstanding division nurse; and Madki Macawadib
as outstanding administrative personnel.
Nine outstanding elementary school principals, seven outstanding
secondary school teachers, and nine outstanding elementary school teachers were
also recognized.
Awarded as outstanding elementary school principals were Yasmin Dapit,
Mokiin Hadji Isah, Solaica Abato, Mokiin Hadji Ali, Namraida Disomangcop,
Majarlica Baragona, Sarandang Ibrahim, Pauli Batabor, and Saripa Ibrahim while
the outstanding secondary school teachers were given to Noraya Alug, Salma
Dimarun, Loyda Linsagan, Jamerah Salomabao, Yakima Balindong, Allanoden Barodi,
and Halima Macabnar.
On the other hand, the outstanding elementary school teachers were
awarded to Sorayda Sultan, Juanita Jalaran, Asnaira Macawadib, Noroniah Taher,
Monera Usman, Noronisa Macud, Rasmia Maguindanao, Salam Macasasa, and Salimah
Omar.
DepEd Marawi also recognized its partners for the support that they
extended to the City School Division in providing quality education to children
in the city.
These include Mindanao State University (MSU) System, MSU Lanao National
College of Arts and Trade (LNCAT), MSU Integrated Science Education (ISED),
Dansalan College Foundation Inc., Jamiatu Muslim Mindanao, Mindanao Islamic
Computer College, Lake Lanao College Foundation, 103rd Infantry Brigade, and
