DENR 10 convenes for annual review

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, November 26 (PIA) – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) region 10 convened recently for 2013 annual review to discuss and evaluate the status of accomplishment on the different programs, projects and activities of the agency.

The annual review was lead by DENR Regional Executive Director Ruth M. Tawantawan together with the regional technical directors, provincial and community DENR officers, division chiefs, protected area superintendents and regional staff

Tawantawan pressed DENR 10 personnel to hasten their operations and achieve their targets before November 30.
  
She also reiterated her standing order to close down all wood processing plants operating without permits including those who have not applied for renewal of their permits with the DENR.

Accomplishments on the national greening program (NGP), cadastral survey, patent issuance and other priority programs/projects was thoroughly discussed during the assessment.

While the agency is also subject to government’s rationalization plan (early retirement benefit package), the director also reminded field officials to be wary about faked Civil Service eligibility as they can also be held liable. (DENR- RPAO/JCV/PIA)


Maramag ranks first runner-up, Guinles in Zambo named 2012 outstanding BNS

MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon, Nov. 26 (PIA) — Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Dorothy P. Felipe of Barangay North Poblacion, Maramag, Bukidnon ranked first runner-up, while BNS Felisa Guilingan of barangay Guinles in Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte is the 2012 National Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (NOBNS).

In the awards rite recently held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City, National Nutrition Council (NNC) governing Board Chair Enrique T. Ona and NNC executive director Assistant Secretary of Health Maria Bernardita T. Flores handed over the cash award of P100,000 for BNS Felipe as first runner-up and P150,000 for NOBNS Guilingan.

The two BNS big winners were recognized as outstanding from among - the more than 39,000 BNSs nationwide.

Likewise, BNS Sherwin Abellaniza of Barangay Magugpo East in Tagum City and Josephine Balingit of Barangay Devilla, Sta. Cruz, Marinduque tied for second runner-up with cash prize of P80,000.

Aside from cash, the winners also received trophies in appreciative recognition of their contribution and excellent performance in improving the nutrition situation in their areas.

The National Nutrition Council annually conducts the awarding ceremony to recognize efforts of BNS as nutrition volunteer workers who untiringly encourage the public especially mothers and children to practice good nutrition behaviors. (Oscar S. Navacilla, Maramag LGU/RLRB, PIA 10 Bukidnon)


Tangub Rewards: Search for Best Class/Section in Writing and Reading is on

TANGUB CITY, Misamis Occidental, Nov. 26 (PIA) – The Department of Education, Division of Tangub City (DepEd-Tangub) in coordination with the Local Government Unit announces this school year’s conduct of “Tangub Rewards.”

The Tangub Rewards is  a search for the “Best Class or Section in Writing and Reading, Tangub Responding Challenges, Reaping Awards,” Dr. Victoria V. Gazo, Schools Division Superintendent (SDS), said.

All elementary schools within the division are qualified to join the contest that aims to encourage and inspire pupils, teachers and school heads to work for exemplary academic performance on a class level.

“The contest can actually be a tool for team-building, as the recognition is given to the whole class and not to an individual pupil, such that everybody in the class will endeavor to team-teach and help all their classmates to be able to read and write,” Gazo said.

Meanwhile, she said the contest will be in three (3) levels: the School Level Search held this month and the District and Division Level Searches to be held in January and February, 2014, respectively. 

The School Level Search was done last Nov. 7 for Cursive Writing in Grade 2 and Enhanced Writing and Journalism in Grade 5, and Nov. 8 for Reading, Mother-Tongue Based (MTB) in Grade 1 and Reading, English in Grade 3.

The weighted scores in the first round is 30 percent while that of the second round is 70 percent and the top five (5) classes in each district with a cut - off mean percentage score (MPS) of 60 percent up shall be declared winners in their respective districts.

On the other hand, classes with an MPS  of 60 percent up shall be considered qualifiers for the Division Level Search and the teacher-coaches of the classes which shall be proclaimed winners shall automatically be proclaimed as Best Teachers in their respective districts.

For the Division level search, only classes with a total MPS of 75 percent and above shall be declared winners and the over - all top 5 highest classes from the four (4) districts with an MPS of 75 percent up shall be declared as division winners, SDS Gazo added. (RCA/PIA10-Misamis Occidental)


Lanao Norte LGU joins relief operations for ‘Yolanda’ victims

TUBOD, Lanao del Norte, November 26 (PIA) – After super-typhoon ‘Yolanda’ ravaged the provinces of Samar and Leyte in the Visayas, the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte (PGLDN) responded by launching its own relief campaign for survivors of the tragedy.

Governor Khalid Dimaporo initiated the humanitarian drive to gather used clothing and footwear from provincial employees and other donations from various agencies and organizations.

Among those who gave donations were municipal local government units (LGUs), government and private sector employees, businessmen and students.

While the provincial government donated rice, canned goods, noodles, and toiletries which will be delivered to typhoon victims in the early part of December.

The Philippine National Red Cross - Lanao del Norte Chapter, also initiated a house-to-house collection of donations in coordination with the Provincial Community Affairs Office.

PGLDN also organized a repacking center for the food packs and used clothing. A total of 4,100 food packs and 1,800 bundles of used clothing were prepared by volunteers ready for transport in the affected areas.

The relief convoy will include doctors, nurses and Red Cross volunteers for the free medical mission in Leyte on December 9 to 13, 2013. Completing the Lanao del Norte contingent are provincial employees, engineers, and some officers from the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Gov. Dimaporo will personally lead the contingent in delivering the humanitarian aid to the devastated communities. “This maybe a dark time for the Philippines but this is also a golden opportunity for us to shine and show our indomitable Filipino spirit through Bayanihan,” Dimaporo said.

On November 17, 2013, Gov. Dimaporo turned-over P500,000.00 to JCI-Lanao del Norte as its assistance to victims of the Zamboanga City siege. (PIA-10 LDN/LAR & VNL/PIO-LDN)
