DA-10 turns over nearly P3.5 M worth of FMR
to Catarman, Camiguin
CAMIGUIN
PROVINCE, April 28 – The Department of Agriculture - Regional Office No.
10 (DA-10) recently turned-over the Farm-to-Market-Road (FMR) amounting to
P3,450,000 to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Catarman, Camiguin under the
Bottoms Up Budget (BUB) /Local Poverty Reduction Action Program (LPRAP) on
March 11, 2014 to the farmers and residents of Banao-Dumilag and Phase 1 and 2
of Sto. Niño, Catarman, this province.
The
220-meter road segment in Banao-Dumilag FMR amounting to P2,750,000 and the
130-meter road segment of Phase 1 and 2 of Sto Niño costing P700,000 has been
concreted.
Funded
by DA-10 under BUB/LPRAP, this project is seen to make transportation of farm
inputs and produce to and from the market easier, thereby ensuring quality of
goods.
Gracing
the turn-over was Carlota S. Madriaga, Regional BUB/LPRAP Coordinator, who
passed on the key of responsibility to Catarman Mayor Nestor A. Jacot and Sto.
Niño. barangay Captain Gerardo Tambor. Also present during the turn-over are
Engr. Isidro B. Dablo Jr., Municipal Engineer; Teodora D. Gadgude, Municipal
Agriculturist of Catarman, Raul M. Buhisan, Sangguniang Bayan Member and other
municipal employees.
Tambor
expressed his gratitude for the FMR Project in their barangay saying “Kaniadto
bisan habal-habal dili musukol paghatod kay lisod ang dalan, pulos lubak-lubak
labi na kung ulan.” (Before, the modified motorcycles or sidecar taxis won’t
endure accepting deliveries and passengers due to almost impassable road
especially during rainy days)
And
now, he says they can demand higher price of their farm produce as it can be
delivered easier, which maintains the quality of goods.
Madriaga
likewise commended the local government unit (LGU) for being the first in
northern Mindanao to complete and turn-over the BUB projects for Fiscal Year
2013.
The
BUB/LPRAP has also allocated nearly P10 million worth of FMR Project completing
the Phase 1 and 2 of Sto. Niño and Banao-Dumilag FMR for the year 2014.

DOH-PhilNos urges organ donation,
transplantation
By: Jasper Marie
Oblina-Rucat
CAGAYAN
DE ORO CITY, April 25 (PIA) – The Department of Health – Philippine Network for
Organ Sharing (DOH-PhilNOS) in their strategic planning workshop conducted here
aimed to come up with the best plan to encourage the public in deceased organ
donation and transplantation.
According
to Dr. Antonio Paraiso, program manager for DOH-PhilNOS, there are 23,000
dialysis patients in the country and half of them are excellent transplant
patients.
He
said that once a person dies, his or her organs are still functioning. There is
a specific period after death that organs can be survived and used again on
another person in need.
However,
he said that “Kaunti lang ang gustong magpa transplant; 100 plus lang of
the total ang gustong magpa transplant. Gusto nila, buhay na donor.” (Only a
few want to undergo transplant. Only 100 plus of the total wants to undergo
transplant. They want a living donor.)
He
said there are two types of donors, the living and brain dead donor. The living
donor may be a Living Related Donor (LRD) up to 4th degree consanguinity or a
Non-Related Living Donor (NRLD) not related by blood but willing to donate based
on certain reasons such as the husband or wife, friend and others which could
fall to voluntary and commercial donors.
Meanwhile,
brain dead donors are those that passed away through head injury, stroke or
accident among others. Dr. Paraiso explained though that the donation is not
done by the dead but the next of kin after he is dead.
However,
through their Lifeline advocacy, anyone who wishes to donate their organs after
they pass away may do so now. They must apply, request and fill up a form from
PhilNos at philnos.doh@gmail.com.
Once
they are approved, they will be given a Lifeline donor card.
Dr.
Paraiso says all Lifeline donor card owners are automatically included in the
master list of potential organ donors and a priority when they are also in need
of donors. (JMOR/PIA10)
