TUBOD, Lanao del Norte, Aug. 16 (PIA) – Some 110 farmers, together with their respective municipal crop specialists, participated in the training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), last Aug. 11-12.
Organized by Representative Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo of Lanao del Norte’s 1st District, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA), the training was held at the Macapagal Training Center, Tubod, this province.
The participants who are engaged in corn, banana, coconut, and rice farming came from the different towns of this fast-rising province.
The training taught the farmers on various methods to reduce the health risks brought about by microbial, physical and chemical hazards. It also provided them with practical information on how to safeguard workers’ health through food safety, cleanliness and discipline.
The farmer-participants were also introduced to the Product Safety Standards to encourage them to ensure the safety of their product.
“I’ve always been searching for ways to further improve the health of our people, that’s why I brought this valuable training here,” Rep. “Angging” Dimaporo expressed.
“I believe that food safety begins in the farm. This training will equip our local farmers with the necessary knowledge on how to eliminate, if not reduce the risk of producing unsafe farm products,” she added.
Also helping facilitate the farmers’ training were personnel from the Office of the Provincial Agriculture and the Office of the Provincial Community Affairs.
Among others, the participants were also made aware of the different aspects of food safety, food quality, and environmental protection. (PIO/PIA-10)
Php500M Laguindingan road interchange project gets RDC-X nod

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental, Aug. 15 (PIA) – The construction of a complementary infrastructure support facility of the Laguindingan Airport Development Project (LADP) have been approved by the Regional Development Council of region 10 (RDC-X).
Worth Php500 million, the Laguindingan Road Interchange Project (LRIP) aims to improve access from and to the LADP by constructing a two-lane elevated highway to address the traffic congestion along the junction of the Butuan-CDO-Iligan Road (BCIR) and the airport access road.
Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz of Iligan City said the LADP is expected to be completed in the first quarter, next year, and among the identified concerns upon its completion is the proposal to construct a road interchange project.
“The RDC-X Infrastructure and Utilities Development Committee having thoroughly discussed the merits of the proposal has recognized the urgency and importance of the project,” Cruz, who is also the RDC-X Chairperson, said.
Meanwhile, the LRIP will have the following components and their estimated cost: Civil works consisting of an estimated 1.50 km. ramp worth Php45 million, and 60 lineal meter pre-stressed concrete box girder bridge with a design capacity of not more than 25 tons, Php60 million.
Road widening of 2 km. length, Php50 million, retaining wall of about 200 meters, Php40 million, drainage facilities of about 1.5 km. in length and installation of street lighting and traffic control devices, Php100 million.
Acquisition of the Road Right of Way (RROW), Php100 million and technical assistance, Php35 million. (PIA-10)
DepEd commends 4CMO for active participation in Brigada Eskwela 2011
CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City, Aug. 16 (PIA) – The Department of Education (DepEd) officials of the Bulua Central School (BSC), this city, has commended the 4th Civil Military Operation Battalion, 4th Infantry Division, Philippine Army for its active participation in the conduct of “Brigada Eskwela 2011” last May 27.
During its General Parents Teachers Association (GPTA) induction of officers and Brigada Eskwela 2011 awarding of certificates last August 13, at the school’s covert court, Atty. Maximo B. Rodriguez Jr. commended the Army’s involvement in the community activities for peace and development in the city.
Rodriguez, who is also the Abante Mindanao (ABAMIN) Party List Representative, graced the affair and served as the Inducting Officer of the newly elected GPTA officers.
Meanwhile, Erlinda T Cartagena, School and District Coordinating Principal of BCS, lauded the PA’s contributions, particularly, the 4CMO for its benevolent support in making their school physically ready for this year opening of classes.
“We are very thankful for the Army’s support to our Brigada Eskwela 2011. Their presence has helped us a lot in preparing our school to be a conducive place for learning,” she said.
During the occasion, Scouts Royale Brotherhood and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints were also awarded certificates of recognition for their support to the school.
The affair was also attended by the school faculties, students, parents, local government officials of Barangay Bulua and different stakeholders of the community. (4CMO/PIA-10)
Awarding of outstanding gov’t workers to highlight111th PSC celebration in September

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental, Aug. 16 (PIA) – Awarding of top performers in Region 10 will be among the highlights of the celebration of the 111th Philippine Civil Service, this coming September.
This was announced by Atty. Lourdes Clavite-Vidal, Regional Director of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), region 10, who said this year’s celebration theme: is “Championing R.A.C.E.: Public Service Excellence at Full speed.”
Vidal said CSC Memorandum No. 17, s. of 2011, has suggested various activities for the celebration that includes the conduct of physical fitness program, trade fairs, awarding ceremony for Lingkod Bayan, Dangal ng Bayan, and the CSC Pag-asa Awards, as well, as the holding of an essay, digital book cover design, government chorale competition and photography contests.
In region 10, the activities for the celebration includes the conduct of a thanksgiving mass, blood-letting, trade fair, musical show, physical fitness program “Hataw,” fun run and the inter-agency friendship games.
Also included is the “Talakayan sa PIA (Philippine Information Agency,” where the best practices and innovations in public service delivery will be discussed.
Meanwhile, Vidal said another activity during the celebration is the awarding of winners in the 2011 Regional Search for Outstanding Agencies/Public Officials and Employees in the following categories:
Outstanding Head of Agency/Local Chief Executive, Outstanding Human Resource Management Practitioner, Model Employee of the Year, Gantimpala Agad Award under Mamamayan Muna Program, Most Gender-Responsive Agency and Honor Roll in ARTA Implementation.
Also included in the search is the category for Outstanding Agency to include the national government agency (NGA), local government units (LGU), government-owned and control corporations (GOCC) and state universities and colleges (SUC). (PIA-10)
MGB releases latest geological condition of Iligan

ILIGAN CITY, Lanao del Norte, Aug. 16 (PIA) – An official of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said the latest DENR data include the geological condition of Iligan City.
As learned from the Office of Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz, the presentation of the report on August 17, will be made by Geologist Osin Sinsuat, Jr., head of Geosciences Division of the Mines Geosciences Bureau under DENR-10.
Sinsuat will make the presentation to barangay captains, personnel of the City Housing Board, City Environment Management Office and other concerned offices in a meeting to be held at the City Engineer’s Office- Building E, Pala-o this city.
The report on geological condition will serve as a guide of people to determine what part of Iligan is safe from landslides and other calamities especially during inclement weather when are rains frequent. (CIO/PIA-10)
People should not be alarmed over pipe torching of massive water project – PIU Manager

ILIGAN CITY, Lanao del Norte, Aug. 16 (PIA) - Engr. Merlito “Nonoy” Catolico said people should not be alarmed over the report that a 24-inch pipe was intentionally burned in Barangay Suarez, a short distance from the water source at Abaga the other night.
Catolico, Manager of the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) said the contractor resolved this problem by cutting away the burned portion and still connect the pipe.
He also assured that the incident will not affect the on-going work of the massive water project of the city.
Catolico said before the incident, PIU was planning to put the pipeline under a pressure test by loading it with water at 150 psi (pounds per square inch).
The PIU Manager said the individual that irresponsibly torched the pipe was not identified since the incident happened in the farthest and heavily woody portion of the pipeline from the water source.
It was learned that the pipe was torched by setting aflame coconut palm fronds. (CIO/PIA-10)
MSME’s of ILigan prepare for Kahimunan Trade Fair 2011

ILIGAN CITY, Lanao del Norte, Aug. 16 (PIA) – Iligan City will participate in the the Kahimunan Regional Trade Fair on August 22-28 at Limketkai Rotonda in Cagayan de Oro.
About 30 micro, small and medium enterprises of Region 10 are preparing for this fair.
This activity will give every province and city in the region, like Iligan, the opportunity to display their own products under the program One Town, One Product (OTOP).
This will include products, such as, food stuffs, gift items, household products, organic or natural products and furniture.
Include in the trade fair is the OTOP of Iligan and abaca products.
As initial activity for Kahimunan, participants underwent a training seminar last week in Cagayan de Oro with regards to visual merchandising, customer handling and basic pricing and costing. (CIO/PIA-10)

MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon, August 16 (PIA) – Si President Benigno S. Aquino III mi-isyu sa Proclamation No. 234 nga mideklara sa August 30, 2011 isip ‘regular holiday’ sa tibuok nasud sa kasaulogan sa Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan).
Ang proklamasyon nga pinirmahan ni Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa niadtong August 11, ning tuig, gi-isyu kini subay sa Republic Act No. 9177 sa pagdeklara sa Eid’l Fitr kon Feast of Ramadhan isip regular holiday sa tibuok nasud.
Ang Eid’l Fitr gasaulogon kini sa mga Muslim sa tibuok kalibutan sulod sa tulo ka adlaw (3 days) pagkahuman sa bulan sa pu-asa.

Ang Ramadhan maoy bulan diin ang mga kaigsoonang Muslim nagapahigayon sa pu-asa sulod sa dose ka oras (12 hours) kada adlaw, sugod sa pagsubang hangud sa pagsalop sa adlaw.
Ang balaan nga bulan sa Ramadhan nagsugod niadtong August 1, 2011, ug matapos kini sa usa ka ‘holiday’ sa Eid’l Fitr, mga 29 ngadto sa 30 ka adlaw (29 to 30 days) human sa pagsugod sa bulan sa pu-asa.
