PICPA vows to support BIR on tax campaign

by Elaine O. Ratunil

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental, March 6 (PIA)—The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) in Bukidnon joins the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in all its efforts to maximize tax collection and be an active partner in all its tax campaign efforts.
Thus echoed CPA and Business Romeo Hernandez, representing PICPA-Bukidnon chapter and Adviser of the Bukidnon League of Local Government Accountants (BULGA).

“For and in behalf of PICPA Bukidnon and as adviser of BULGA, I hereby pledge our solidarity support to the 2011 tax campaign kick-off with the theme “Buwis Mo Para sa Bagong Pilipinas (Your Taxes for a New Philippines)” as launched by BIR,” Hernandez said.

He said the Provincial Government of Bukidnon where he serves as Provincial Accountant has been a consistent Outstanding Government Withholding Tax Agent as recognized by the BIR.
On the occasion of the 100th year anniversary of the BIR, the province of Bukidnon was awarded among the Top 12 Outstanding Government Withholding Agents Nationwide by the BIR.

“A record we can brag about and pledge to maintain,” he said.

With the economic boom of micro, small and medium agricultural investments in Bukidnon as a result of record high production and better farm gate prices of corn, sugar and other high value crop, the province offers an expanded tax base for Region 10, cited Hernandez.

Meanwhile, Regional Esmeralda Tabule of BIR Revenue Region 16 (BIR RR16) said the bureau’s enforcement of tax laws is not only to raise revenues for the government but also to get rid of society violators. (PIA10)

Gingoog City Water District backs BIR tax campaign
by Elaine O. Ratunil

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental, March 6 (PIA)—The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is intensifying community awareness on its tax campaign efforts for the public to cooperate in its call to pay corresponding taxes promptly and honestly.

As it launched its Tax Campaign for 2011 in Cagayan de Oro on March 2 with the theme “Buwis Mo Para sa Bagong Pilipinas (Your taxes for the News Philippines),” the Gingoog City Water District (GCWD) signified its support to the bureau’s advocacy.

Engr. Danilo Gabia, Administrative Officer of GCWD which was created under Presidential Decree No. 198, otherwise known as the “Water Utilities Act of 1973” is mandated to adhere to government laws and guidelines.

Our way of adherence to such laws is our sign of commitment to the Philippine government advocacy to serve the people with utmost sincerity and dedication. As a law abiding institution, GCWD has to leap its steps towards real development by sharing the part of our revenues to the sagging economy of our nation, Gabia said.

He said, water districts as water utility institutions are government-owned and controlled corporations and should therefore be part of this development towards nation building founded under the new scheme of national leadership.

Pres. Benigno S. Aquino III is bringing a new vision for our country with his serious commitment to the truth by enhancing tax collections through his reform agenda “Tungo sa Bagong Pilipinas (Towards the New Philippines).”

These actions could be the new signs of the times of another spiritual and moral revolution for the better life of generations to come. Contented with his kind of national leadership, GCWD expressed another years of commitment, Gabia said.

“We pledge our undeniable support to the national government, the BIR and to the Revenue District No. 97 of Gingoog City headed by RDO Gledonio B. Teope, Jr. to maintain our friendly relationships and pay our taxes as required by law.

We acknowledge the mercy of our Creator for allowing us to utilize water resources without much difficulty. We thank Him more for our upliftment and growth and because of that we were able to pay our taxes on time with commitment,” the GCWD Admin Officer said.

“Our awards which we received as consistent Top Government Withholding Agent from the government sector for two years, may not only be considered as our success, but it is also yours, because of your RDO who remained steadfast in terms of their amiable approaches with integrity to persuade us to pay the correct taxes” Gabia added. PhilHealth eyeing to raise TB benefit package
by Jorie C. Valcorza

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental, March 6 (PIA) - The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) is examining the possibility of raising the Tuberculosis (TB) Outpatient Benefit Package of Directly Observed Treatment Short-Course (DOTS) facilities to P5,000.00 from its old flat rate of P4,000.00.

This was revealed by Gerion Cabang, Social Insurance Officer of PhilHealth during the re-orientation workshop of TB control partners on the Comprehensive and Unified Policy for TB Control (CUP TB), held in Cagayan de Oro, recently.

Cabang highlighted before the group the TB-DOTS package. He noted that payment will only cover fees of physicians, healthcare workers, referral center, additional services rendered and for the extension of treatment.

The amount of P2, 500 will be given to the facility during the intensive phase or after the second month treatment and the remaining P1, 500 will only be released after the completion of the six-month maintenance phase.

The DOTS facility, in return, will provide free sputum examination, consultation services and anti-tuberculosis drugs the patient requires for the whole 6 months of treatment.

These will give ease and convenience to the patients when accessing quality health care services for tuberculosis.

However, PhilHealth will put a certain patient in exclusion of the benefit package if the treatment will result to failure or relapse, Cabang added.

This move is devised to ensure strong partnership and commitment between patients and accredited DOTS facilities to efficiently diagnose and complete treatment of TB. (PIA 10)
