Newly elected Tangub city officials sworn
Mayor-elect Atty. Philip T. Tan, with the 10 newly elected city councilors were sworn into office last June 28, 2010 by Judge Sylvia Singidas-Machacon, Executive Judge, Regional Trial Court Branch XVI, Tangub city at the Sinanduloy Cultural Center, Tangub City.
The program was divided into two parts: Part I was the Holy Mass, and Part II was the inauguration ceremonies. After the entrance of colors, the Sinanduloy Singers rendered the Invocation and National Anthem, followed by the oath taking ceremony. The city officials were the first to be sworn to office who were given two minutes each to deliver their respective inaugural speech.
The following are the city councilors: Edemar S. Alota, Filoteo C. Alngohuro, Sabiniano S. Canama, Romeo M. Carriaga, Sr., Anecilin S. del Valle, Edilberto L. Gripo, Francisca P. Lopez, Lucio F. Ordeniza, Cecilio C. Sultan, and Mariano P. Trompeta, Jr. Elected city vice-mayor is Alejo B. Monleon.
A 45-minute audio-video presentation of Mayor Jennifer Wee-Tan’s accomplishment for three terms followed the oath-taking and inaugural speeches of the city councilors. Mayor Tan then gave her words of thanks and inspiration and capped this with a rousing song number accompanied by the Sinanduloy All-Star Band.
The highlight of the occasion was the oath-taking of Atty. Philip T. Tan as the newly elected city mayor of Tangub, which was followed by his inaugural address. Suspected shabu dealer in PDEA custody
Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in region 10 successfully conducted a buy-bust operation last June 29, 2010 around 5:45 in the afternoon at Barangay 31, Sto. Niño, Cagayan de Oro City.
Arrested was one (1) Jade Nacional y Barcelona, listed as one of the target drug personalities of PDEA 10, 20 years old, male, single and residing at Osmeña Extension Barangay 22, Cagayan de Oro City.
The said person was arrested after selling one piece heat sealed transparent plastic sachet believed to be Shabu to an undercover PDEA Agent.
Also recovered from his possession and control was one piece heat sealed transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance believed to be Shabu.
Director Gilbert B. Abanto, Jr. said the arrested suspect is now temporarily detained at PDEA 10 Office for booking and documentation while confiscated drug items were brought to Regional Crime Laboratory for quantitative and qualitative examination.

Lanao Norte holds mass oath-taking of elected officials
Tubod, Lanao del Norte – More than 200 newly-elected municipal and provincial officials simultaneously took their oath of office last June 28, at the Mindanao Civic Center gymnasium, Tubod, this province.
Provincial officials led by Gov. Mohamad Khalid Dimaporo, Vice-Governor Irma Umpa-Ali, 1st District Representative Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo, 2nd District Representative Fatima Aliah Dimaporo and Board Members from both districts of Lanao del Norte took their oath in front of Judge Oscar Badelles of Regional Trial Court Branch 05.
The 20 mayors and vice-mayors from different towns of the province also came with their respective councilors and swore before Gov. Khalid Dimaporo for their oath of office.
During the ceremony, DILG representative Mary Jane Yap-Quibranza officially presented the newly-elected candidates to their administering officials.
“This is the first that we have this mass oath-taking ceremony for all elected officials in the province. We are truly happy to be part of this historic ceremony,” Kapatagan Mayor Benjie Baguio said.
In his speech, Gov. Dimaporo urged all LGU officials to unite and work together towards the attainment of Vision 2020.
“We believe in the leadership of Team Dimaporo and we will continue to work in partnership with them for continued peace and development of Lanao del Norte,” assured Bacolod Mayor Joselito Miquibas.
Present also during the activity were provincial and municipal employees, supporters, friends and family members of the officials. (VNL/PIO-LDN)
ICDCC kicks off National Disaster Consciousness Month in July with a motorcade
Iligan City – The Iligan City Disaster Coordinating Council (ICDCC) joins the country and has lined up activities for this year’s observance of National Disaster Conscious Month in July.
Allan B. Padilla, acting civil defense deputized coordinator of the Disaster Management Operation Center of ICDCC, said they have coordinated with their partner agencies to join with the activities calendared which started with a motorcade around the city thoroughfare on July 1.
We have identified barangays prone to flashfloods/landslide as we conduct disaster preparedness trainings and seminars to coastal and low-lying barangays located near riverbanks within the city, said Padilla.
In partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), we conduct orientation on earthquake and fire evacuation drills to private and public schools, as well as government and private offices, added Padilla.
The team also conducted building safety inspection especially to dormitories, inns and high rise buildings.
As part of our year round activity, we continue to activate the Barangay Disaster Coordinating Councils in the 44 barangays, this city, said Padilla.
Prior to this month’s celebration, we conducted the Earthquake Drill to some 708 participants from the Special Education Center Elementary School, Iligan City, in the morning of 18th June.
An activity of the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) during the 2nd Quarter 2010 Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill slated on the said date.
It showcased emergency response operations within the “Golden Hour” (1st 72 hours) such as fire suppression, collapsed structure search and destroy, rescue and evacuation.
Participants included faculty and staff of the school, the pupils (including special/disabled children) with their parents/guardians.
Highlighting today’s kick-off activity is the bloodletting program of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) at the public plaza. We responded to their call with some of our staff to be possible blood donors, Padilla disclosed.
We intend to reach out boundary to boundary-barangays connecting our city and the neighboring province, as we advocate to people in a motorcade depicting the theme, “Pag alerto, Malayo sa Peligro,” reiterated Padilla. (Lorry V. Gabule/PIA LDN)
Oro Chamber supports air force medical mission for indigenous community
Cagayan de Oro City—The Tactical Operations Group 10 of the 3rd Air Division of the Philippine Air Force conducted a medical mission for indigenous people communities as well as residents of Barangay Lumbia last June 26 at the Lumbia Airport, this City.
The services extended to the program beneficiaries included medical, dental and pharmacy services.
The program is intended to mainly benefit IPs and residents of Sitio Pahinon, Baluarteand Maluntog in Barangay Lumbia.
The medical mission is part of the civic action program of the Philippine Air Force and is supported by the 4th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples in region 10, Philippine Dental Association-Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) region 10, City Health Office, Pueblo de Oro Development Corporation, Lumbia Barangay Council, Coca Cola, Del Monte Philippines, Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental, Provincial Health Office, Smart Communications and the Oro Chamber. Presentation of Ms. Lanao Norte candidates highlights Environment day
Tubod, Lanao del Norte – The 14 lovely ladies representing different municipalities of Lanao del Norte were officially presented to the public last June 29 during the opening ceremony of Environment day held at Mighty Cave Park complex, Tagoloan, this province.
The candidates donned on their jungle-inspired costumes and paraded in the main stage built purposely for the Environment day celebration.
“The Mighty Cave Park makes for an excellent backdrop for the presentation of this year’s batch of Ms. Lanao del Norte Candidates. We are also highlighting this latest tourist destination here in our province,” declared Provincial Tourism Head Minda Regis.
Prior to the presentation, the candidates also posed before a throng of photographers during their pictorial session held at the cavernous entrance of the cave. From the group, one candidate will be selected as Ms. Photogenic.
During the Environment day celebration, the candidates were also interviewed by the local media for their selection of the Darling of the Press.
Ms. Lanao del Norte will hold its most anticipated coronation night on July 2, 7PM at the MCC gym, Sagadan, Tubod.
This major highlight of the 51st Araw ng Lanao del Norte is open to the public. The organizers of the pageant are extending their invitation to all the residents of Lanao del Norte and nearby provinces to come and witness this exciting annual event. (VNL/PIO-LDN)
Lanao del Norte celebrates Provincial Environment Day
Tubod, Lanao del Norte – An estimation of 1, 000 people from the different part of Lanao del Norte converged in Mighty Cave Complex, Tagoloan, Lanao del Norte to celebrate environment day last June 29. Among the major events that will highlights the celebration of the 51st Araw ng Lanao del Norte is to acknowledge the richness and abundance we benefit from nature.
This year, Tagoloan was chosen to host the said celebration so as to promote the cavernous Mighty Cave Park situated at the heart of the municipality.
Tree planting activity was conducted earlier before the official program by the provincial officials and employees including the local government unit of Tagoloan.
"Think globally but we must act locally by engaging partners from all sectors of society, the government sector, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, youth and the media to take part in all issues that concern our environment," said Maximo O. Dischoso, Regional Executive Director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in region 10.
In his message, Gov. Khalid Q. Dimaporo empowered and encouraged the people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development by protecting our environment.
Environment day is a day that stimulates awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and public action, thus, a move of determination to manage natural resources and deal with the most demanding challenge of the climate change.
In line with the program was the presentation of the 14 young and beautiful candidates vying for the title as the Miss Lanao del Norte 2010 which was proudly presented by Minda Regis, Provincial Tourism Officer (PTO).
A press conference was followed to test the wit and eloquence of the candidates. When the candidates were asked what is the essence of true beauty, Miss Linamon, Krystyne Baclayon was applauded with her answer, “True beauty is when you find peace in your heart and share it to others, I am beautiful. Therefore I am.”
All the candidates were equally smart, displayed confidence and charisma of a beauty queen but only one of them will be crowned as Miss Lanao del Norte 2010. The darling of the press will be announced on the coronation night, July 3 at Mindanao Civic Center.

PCO conducts enhancement seminar for Lanao Norte food processors
Tubod, Lanao del Norte – Provincial Cooperative Office (PCO) recently conducted a very powerful and functional to the fast growing business of Lanao del Norte food processors and cooperatives in the province, “Barcoding, Branding and Marketing Strategy” last June 22.
In welcoming the guests and participants to the program, Rodrigo Gamit, Provincial Cooperative Officer (PCO) said in his welcome address that the seminar is an opportunity for the producers on how to get a breakthrough in the marketing level and can go beyond trade fairs and local displays.
“Manufacturing services mirror the quality of the product and the quality of the cooperatives,” Rod Gamit commented on what composes a successful business.
Luz G. Galda, Trade and Development Specialist and Trade Promotion Officer, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Lanao del Norte Provincial Office as the source speaker of said seminar cited that the main objective in the marketing arena is not only to influence the buyers to buy the product but to gain sales and profits.
Barcoding is an article numbering style for increased productivity that benefits the manufacturers, retailers and customers. This method can be a source of sales information and control tool in logistics. It is also efficient, fast and precise movement of goods, quick price change and improves customer service. This would a good way of eliminating of price errors of point-of-sale.
The seminar also includes branding as one of the marketing strategies that will help the participants know how to design, build and leverage strong brands over time.

Hontiveros sees hope for peace initiatives to prosper in PNoy’s term
Risa Hontiveros, former journalist and well-known women’s rights and peace advocate expresses her high hopes after hearing President Aquino’s inaugural speech yesterday.
Joining the peace advocates composed of Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), Philippine-Australia Community Assistance Program (PACAP) partner NGOs, POs and CSOs in a peace, culture, and development forum held in Cagayan de Oro city today (June 1), Hontiveros shares optimism for a smooth cooperation among stakeholders.
In her talk, she recounted salient points of Presidents Aquino’s inaugural speech. Hontiveros praise President Aquino’s concern for Mindanaoans and his expressed commitment for a peaceful and just settlement of conflicts, inclusive of the interests of all – may be Lumads, Bangsamoro or Christian.
The Forum “kapayapaan at pagkakaisa sa gitna ng pagkakaiba” was organized by the AusAID-PACAP with the hope of sharing experiences and good practices in advocating peace and development agenda, celebrating cultural diversity, and intercultural solidarity. (Jorie C. Valcorza)

The SOV-Regional Screening Committee announces that the deadline of submission of entries to the 2010 Search for Outstanding Volunteer/s (SOV) is on or before July 16, 2010.

NEDA is urging agencies and organizations to participate in the celebration of the National Volunteer Month (NVM) in December, by organizing volunteerism activities, advocating the practice of volunteerism through the tri-media, putting up of NVM streamers in strategic locations, and other means.

NEDA-X hosts symposium on volunteerism
The Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) in cooperation with the National Economic and Development Authority will hold a Regional Symposium on Volunteerism on July 15, 2010; 8:00am-5:00pm at Pearlmont Inn, Limketkai Drive, Cagayan de Oro City.
The symposium is part of a nationwide advocacy on volunteerism, as mandated in Republic Act (RA 9418), otherwise known as the “Volunteer Act of 2007,” institutionalizing volunteerism as a strategy for national development and international cooperation.
The forum highlights include presentations on: a) Volunteering for Rural Development; The Volunteers Act of 2007 (RA 9418); b) The National Volunteer Service Program in the Philippines; and c) Volunteering Experience in Region X, among others.
Other salient activities include a focus group discussion (FGD) and sharing of outputs among various stakeholders in the region to enhance volunteerism.
